Contractors:

• Applicants must pass examinations dealing with the specific trade, as well as with business law. A passing grade of at least 70 to 75% (depending on the exam) is required.
• Independently prepared financial statements, as well as written references from a financial institution and material supplier or contractor, are required with the application.

Fees

• One Time Licensing Surcharge - $400 (out of state contractors only).
• Initial Fee - $100 (per classification)
• Annual Renewal Fee - $100 (per classification, maximum of $300).
• Residential construction contractors must file insurance certificates for worker's compensation for the statutory limits and for liability coverage in a minimum amount of $100,000.

Other:

Nonresidential contractors and subcontractors must register with the Department of Revenue and Taxation, if the contract is in excess of $3,000. The contractor shall also post bond or other surety in the minimum amount of $1,000.
